For the first day of class, we started with the alphabet and went over it several times, so the students could hear how letters are pronounced in french. After that, we went over introductions such as "Bonjour", and "Je m'appelle ____". The students colored and wrote these phrases on the cover of their alphabet books. They also learned colors and were able to say their favorite one. We went over the words for hands and feet so the students could play a game of Twister using a bit of the french vocabulary they just learned.
The students were very well behaved. Several of them seemed like they were getting the hang of it. However, I felt there were times they started to get bored. I hope my group and I can come up with ways to keep them interested, because I want the students to enjoy our time together. I don't want them to feel that they're just stuck at school for another hour. For the next class, I would like to discuss with my fellow group members step by step how we will be teaching. I thought transitioning from the different topics we were teaching was somewhat unorganized.
Overall, I'd say we're off to a good start. I look forward to next week.

Congratulations on a successful first class. As we discussed, the first class is often an information getting session for the teacher as well as the students and this will help you prepare for next time.

ReplyDelete"I thought transitioning from the different topics we were teaching was somewhat unorganized..." I agree with your assessment and I mentioned this in my post as well. Considering it was the first day though I gave us some slack. We can work on transitioning into the lessons better by having a more concrete plan...understandably, sometimes improvisation cuts into the time and a class can get off topic. Maybe more media stuff and less of the old school poster boards, etc. could help liven the class up a little bit cause I agree sometimes they looked timid (I would be too if I were them, it is not easy being exposed to a new language which some of them have maybe never seen or thought about before), but we did some of this with the French music in the background and the short YouTube color video. I think your right though, the Service Learning is off to a good start and it can only get better...Merci!

I agree with what you said about the kids getting a bit bored. But I think if we switch up the activities and come up with more ideas, it will engage them more. Overall I think everyone in our group did a great job and I hope we can keep up the good work!
ReplyDeletethst's true you are right, kids started to get bored in a moment that's why we should avoid to be to much technical and incorporate more activities in our teaching technic to make interesting another thing we should work every day on how we will make transition to one subject to another that way we wi save some time . but i think for the first class we did a good job as a group
